Maccan Cave Hotel [Goreme/Cappadocia, Turkey]

http://www.maccancavehotel.com/

  • Located in Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey
  • Address: Aydinli Mah. Aydinli Sok. No:17 , 50180 Göreme, Nevşehir, Turkey
  • Reservations: can be made online from their website
  • Rates: varies depending on the season and type of room (ranges from $80 – $120 CAD). Click here for the hotel’s rates.
    • You can also request for pick-up from Nevsehir airport to the hotel (25 TL one way)
  • Overall: Since I only had one night in Goreme, I wanted a clean hotel that would provide me with the cave hotel experience with the view of the valley. At the same time, I didn’t want a hotel that was too pricy as I was not going to be spending very much time at the hotel with all the tours I had booked to go in Goreme. This hotel did exactly what I was looking for – the hotel was a cave hotel, the room was clean, and the location was close to the centre of Goreme (about a 10minute walk), and they have a great rooftop terrace overseeing the valley.

  • Other hotels I considered during my research were:
    • Museum Hotel – I came across this hotel from photos on Instagram (I’ve seen a few bloggers stay at this hotel). The hotel is beautiful with an outdoor pool overseeing the valley. If you get up early in the morning, you would be able to watch the sunrise + hot air balloons in the valley from the pool. If you have more than 1 night in Goreme and you are ok with the price of the hotel, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
      • Although I loved the outdoor pool and the view this hotel had, I didn’t end up staying here, because:
        • I only had 1 night in Goreme and I had to get up early in the morning to go on the hot air balloon ride. So even if I stayed at this hotel, I would have not had the time to see the sunrise + hot air balloons in the valley from the pool.
        • The hotel is not walking distance from the centre of Goreme (it’s about a 10 minute drive) vs. most of the other hotels in Goreme, which are walking distance from the city centre (gives more flexibility when exploring the city, more dining options than just eating at the hotel restaurant)
        • The hotel is pricy compared to other hotels in Goreme. The rates vary depending on the type of room and season, but they start around $450/night (vs. starting rate of $80/night for Maccan Cave Hotel that I ended up staying at). Since I knew I wouldn’t have very much time to spend at the hotel with all the tours I had planned in Cappadocia, it would have not been worth the price to stay at Museum Hotel for me.
    • Adyinli Cave House Hotel – I came across this hotel from the app Fancy (click here for my blog post on my vacation wishlist from Fancy). The hotel has great reviews on Trip Advisor and the price per night starts around $100. The hotel is not too far from the centre of Goreme, so you can walk to restaurants and souvenir shops from this hotel.
      • I didn’t end up choosing this hotel, because although the hotel had great reviews and the price was reasonable, I thought Maccan Cave Hotel also provided the same value for a better rate per night at the time when I was doing my research for hotels.
