What is there to see at Ngong Ping? Ngong Ping is famous for the Big Budda (see pictures below) and the 5.7km cable car ride. One way cable car ride takes about 25 minutes.

Hours: 10am to 6pm on weekdays, 9am to 6:30pm on weekends and public holidays

Ticket price for the cable car: $150 HKD roundtrip for a standard cabin, $235 HKD roundtrip for a crystal cabin, and $210 for one way crystal cabin and one way standard cabin. You can also hike up to Ngong Ping and take the cable car down. For single trip ticket prices, click here.

Reservations: Reservations are recommended as there can be very long line ups during peak tourist seasons. Reservation can be made online here.

How to get to Ngong Ping:

  • By MTR – take the Tung Chung Line to Tung Chung station. Once you arrive at Tung Chung station, exit to Exit B and follow signs to Ngong Ping.
  • By bus – there is a bus service as well, but the bus drops you off at a station that is about 10-15 minute walk to the cable car entrance for Ngong Ping, so I find that it’s more convenient to get to Ngong Ping by MTR. For details about the buses, click here.
