Mandarin Orchard Singapore [Singapore]

  • Located on Orchard Road (one of the big shopping streets in Singapore with all the department stores and malls)
  • Address: 333 Orchard Road, Singapore 238867
  • How to get to the hotel from the airport: 1) Take the MRT to Somerset station (this requires 2 transfers, one at Tanah Merah station and one at City Hall station, and it takes about 40minutes); 2) take bus – there are lots of buses that go to Orchard Road (for a full list of bus numbers, click here); or 3) take a taxi (about SG$20, rate varies depending on the type of the taxi)
  • Reservations: can be made online at the Mandarin Orchard website here, or through other hotel booking websites. I used for booking my stay at Mandarin Orchard.
  • Rates: The room rates start from about $200 USD/night. But as with any other hotels, the rates vary depending on the season, type of room, as well as the number of people staying in the room, so it’s best to check out the rates from the hotel website or other hotel booking websites.
  • OVERALL: I stayed at two different hotels during my stay in Singapore (2 nights at Marina Bay Sands, and 1 night at Mandarin Orchard). I booked it that way, because I wanted to experience two different areas in Singapore and also because I have heard so many reviews that Marina Bay Sands is over-rated and the service is not the best. However, contrast to the reviews, I had a really enjoyable stay at Marina Bay Sands that when I got to Mandarin Orchard, I didn’t see much of a wow factor compared to Marina Bay Sands. The service was great and the rooms were clean, but it was a typical 4 star hotel. However, the location of the hotel is really great if you are looking to do lots of shopping, as it is located right on Orchard Road. It is also closer to go to some of the tourist attractions (ex. Botanic Garden, Demsey Hill) from the Orchard Road area than the Marina Bay area. There are also buses that run from Mandarin Orchard to the night safari.
    • Deciding which area to stay in Singapore? Based on my experience…
      • I would recommend staying in the Marina Bay area, if you would like to have nice views and be closer to tourist attractions in that area such as Marina Bay Sands, Merlion Park, Singapore Flyer). Also, this area is a bit more expensive than other areas in Singapore, so if budget is a key factor for choosing your accommodation, then this would not be the best area.
      • I would recommend staying in the Orchard Road area, if you are looking to do some serious shopping and also want to be closer to tourist attractions such as Botanic Garden and Demsey Hill. The hotels in this area are generally cheaper than Marina Bay Sands area.
